A number of Unifor Local 200 workers at the Nemak plant in Windsor are on layoff. Seventeen full time and 25 temporary employees are affected but are slated to return to their jobs on January 7.
Local 200 President John D'Agnolo says the layoff is not a result of the Oshawa GM announcement but rather, slow sales overseas.
The engine blocks cast at the plant are destined for China where sales have been slow.
The Windsor Nemak plant makes 2.0-litre and 2.5-litre engine blocks for GM in China.
