Layoff notices have been issued at the Windsor-Essex Children's Aid Society.
CUPE Local 2286 says 12 staff members have been laid off and 23 positions have been eliminated.
On CUPE's website, President Craig Hesman issued a statement:
“This is an already short-staffed and underfunded agency," says Hesman. "The need for child protection services is on the rise in Windsor and Essex County and across the province. We should be raising staffing and service levels to meet those needs instead of making children and families in our community suffer.”
Local 2286 represents 350 members at the local chapter.
AM800 News has reached out to the CAS but calls have not been returned.
