The Firebirds ended a five game losing streak at the expense of the Windsor Spitfires Friday in Flint.
Jake Durham's 14th goal of the season put the last place Firebirds up 1-0 to close out the first, Windsor would strike back midway through the second on a power-play goal from Mathew MacDougall to tie things up at 1-1 midway through the second.
Flint's Fedor Gordeev notched the game winner at the 12-minutes mark of the third. Durham would ice the game by depositing his second goal of the game into the empty net for a 3-1 finish.
The Firebirds improve to 3-21-1, and Windsor drops to 11-11-1-1 on the year.
Rookie Kari Piiroinen stopped 28 of 30 shots in a losing effort for the Spitfires. Flint's Emanuel Vella made 34 saves on 35 shots for the win and first star of the game honours.
The Firebirds will be in Windsor for a rubber match Saturday at the WFCU Centre.
