Mother nature ruined a plan to drop 25,000 eggs from a helicopter

Grand plans to drop 25,000 Easter eggs outside the Vollmer Centre were derailed by Mother Nature Saturday, but organizers were still able to come through.

The WFCU Credit Union planned on making it rain Easter eggs from a helicopter as part of its first ever Easter Egg Drop, but high winds and steady rain made that impossible.

Vice President of External Affairs Susan Stockwell-Andrews says that's when the Town of LaSalle stepped up to save the day.

She tells CTV Windsor the event was welcomed inside the Vollmer Complex with open arms and hundreds of kids still had a fantastic time.

"Hundreds and hundreds of children here today and they've been able to meet some of their favourite characters. The Easter Bunny, Pippa the Pig, we've got Bomber and Spike from the Windsor Spitfires," she says.

It took some hustle to rearrange the event, but Stockwell-Andrews says WFCU staff and volunteers would do it all over again.

"You turn around and you say who's ready for the Easter Bunny? The faces on these children just light up and that's what really makes this special," says Susan Stockwell-Andrews. "You've done something that's warmed the hearts of people and made a great day for some young children."

Courtney Taylor and her nephews are excited they still got to meet the Easter Bunny, but that was only part of their motivation.

"They're also excited because I think they knew they were going to be getting some chocolate ... chocolate, yeah? yeah."

She says it's great to see everyone found a way to have fun on a gloomy Saturday afternoon.

"It's a good opportunity to hang out with the family and meet other people in the community," she says.

The event is part of the WFCU's Inspire Community Engagement Program.
