The Town of LaSalle and the LaSalle Rowing Club are going to take a second shot at an agreement to build a new dock at Gil Maure Park.
At its January 23 meeting, LaSalle Council turned down a proposal which would have seen the club contribute $10,000 to the $60,000 project.
Deputy Mayor Marc Bondy says council would like to see the rowing club chip in more as it would be the primary user of the dock.
The club has drafted a new proposal which includes a $20,000 contribution; $10,000 in 2018 for construction and an additional $1,000 per year for the next ten years.
Bondy says he feels the club has stepped up.
"It's a big step forward. I actually made the motion not to accept their original proposal. So they've gone up drastically, but it'll be up to council to discuss it and vote on it."
He says the new proposal shows the club is serious about the project.
"Not everybody uses the rowing club dock. Just like the Vollmer Centre, not everybody goes there to skate or play baseball or soccer, but we have to give the amenities for the people who want it while trying to keep the tax dollars in place."
Bondy says council wants to minimize the impact on taxpayers.
"Anything we can get some contribution towards is a huge benefit and $20,000 is a lot better than $10,000, but we'll see how receptive council is to this."
Bondy adds, the current dock is in rough shape and will need to be replaced in the near future.
If approved, the new specialty dock will allow for lower water access making getting in and out of row boats, canoes and kayaks much easier.
LaSalle Council will discuss the issue at its Tuesday night meeting.
