Work to spruce up the roundabout at Todd Lane and Malden Road in LaSalle continues.
Council has approved an additional $50,000 for a ship centrepiece made from metal which will resemble the one used in the town's logo.
Mayor Ken Antaya says council has been discussing the project for ten years and has finally come up with a design that helps showcase the town's heritage. He says using the LaSalle ship was an easy choice.
"It was just a matter of making sure that we got the right design, something that we could all agree with and it's part of our logo," says Antaya. "It's in our signage everywhere. In fact, we're getting to the point now we're just trying to show the ship and they'll know it's associated with LaSalle. So it's important that we keep on with that theme."
He'd like to see a welcome sign put up as well at the roundabout.
"It's really at a crossroads. It's something that you could actually say that there's two entrances to the town at that very location," he says. "I want to make sure that people know they're entering LaSalle."
He says this roundabout will act as a template for others in the town.
"We've got other roundabouts in the town and we have other entrances in the town and this will sort of set the tone in relation to what we want to do at all of our borders," says Antaya. "I think that the way it has been projected to council is that it's going to really add a lot of character to that area."
The additional $50,000 brings the total cost of the project to $199,000. Work is expected to begin in the spring.
