A LaSalle pharmacist has received a prestigious honour.
Rob Modestino, who owns Rob's Whole Health Pharmacy, has been named the 2018 Pharmacist of the Year by the Ontario Pharmacists Association which recognizes a pharmacist who demonstrates outstanding achievement in all areas of pharmacy care.
He started in 1989 at Big V, which switched over to Shoppers Drug Mart.
In 2017, he opened an independent pharmacy.
Modestino says it is important to have a good honest relationship with your pharmacist.
"In today's system with so many walk-in clinics and emergency room visits, the doctor may not always have a complete picture of what the patient is taking as far as medications," he says. "If a patient deals with one pharmacy all the time, they have at least got that complete picture and through today's insurance companies, we do get triggers on our computer systems as to when there are interactions."
He tries to focus on patient care as a whole.
"The focus here at my pharmacy is completely on getting to know the patients, getting to know their families, providing them with the best care that we possibly can."
Many of his patients have been with him for the 15 years he has been in the LaSalle area.
