Reaction continues to come in after Tom Bain's announcement he would not be seeking re-election as Essex County Warden in the upcoming municipal election.
LaSalle Mayor and the county's Deputy Warden Ken Antaya says there's never been, and likely will never be, a more vocal and passionate advocate for the region.
He says there will be big shoes to fill when Bain leaves.
"He's a gentleman. That's about the best way I can explain Tom Bain. He always gave everybody an opportunity to speak. To tell you the truth, if he was mad I couldn't tell because I don't recall a time where he lost his temper. He's a really good ambassador for our community and one that politicians in the county should look up to as an example."
Antaya says Bain has earned a break.
"If there's ever a guy that was committed to the position, it was Tom Bain. You think of the number of hours that's required in his own community, there's a rumour that he has a hobby of horses and I couldn't believe the amount of events that he would attend on behalf of the County of Essex."
He says he hopes Bain's voice will still be around the County Council table as Lakeshore's mayor.
"I was very proud to call him my warden. For him to be as accountable as he was, it's just something that we should be very thankful for. He did a great job for us and, luckily, he's said that he was going to probably run for mayor again and that's important as well because it's good to have a guy like that on County Council."
2018 marks Bain's 40th year as an elected official.
While he says he won't run for the Warden's chair again, he is still considering a run as Lakeshore's mayor.
The municipal election takes place October 22, 2018.
