The town holds a Remembrance Day event on the weekday so children from the various schools in the town can attend.
It was the final ceremony for Mayor Ken Antaya, who ends his term next month.
He says this one was touching for him.
"Very emotional and something that you're really trying to imagine what went on during those conflicts and what they went through, I really appreciate the crowd coming out today and standing in the cold and standing in the rain that probably pales in comparison to what they went through"
Antaya says the chilly, wet weather feels appropriate for the event adding that involving the school children is important.
"If we're going to bring awareness, they need to be aware of what freedoms were and what it cost us and by having these events and them standing out here watching it, I give them all the credit in the world because they really behaved themselves and they did a nice job of paying respect to the veterans"
Students from both Sandwich Secondary and Villanova read speeches at the ceremony.
