The largest 5K Canada Day run in the nation will be rolling through the Town of Amherstburg Sunday.
More than 2,000 people will hit the streets for several age geared events.
Organizer Chris Uszynski tells AM800 News the run attracts people from all over.
"People from all over the country and the parts of Singapore and the United States all fly in to enjoy Amherstburg Ont.," he says.
The event boasts a different Canadian on the medal every year, and this year will be something special, he says.
"This year it's the late Gordon Downie of the Tragically Hip who's being honoured on the medal this year as our Great Canadian," says Uszynski. "That in itself has a lot of meaning; we worked really closely with his family on that."
With stifling heat set for Canada Day, Uszynski say event planners are ready to keep everyone cool and healthy.
"Refrigerated trucks to refrigerate the water to make sure it's cold enough for runners and participants to enjoy," he says. "We've also enlisted the help of the Amherstburg Fire Department to do a shower station mid was through the course, and also the Canadian Coast Guard is helping us out."
The run starts at 9am Sunday.
