A federal investment in an Oldcastle auto parts supplier that will create 60 local jobs.
Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Navdeep Bains was at Lakeside Plastics Wednesday morning to announce a $41-million investment in 11 projects in Ontario, B.C and Quebec as part of the Strategic Innovation Fund. It will create a total of 2,600 jobs.
Lakeside Plastics on North Talbot Rd. is receiving $1.1-million to create 60 jobs and secure 300 positions.
"Lakeside from right here in Tecumseh will be an active leader in the quest for lighter, greener vehicles and I'm glad that we can play an active partnership role," says Minister Bains.
The company, which makes plastic auto parts of General Motors, will use the money for product design, tooling and assembly processes to make lighter but stronger plastic parts.
"We focus quite a bit on our innovation and skills agenda in the budget," he says "But it is important to note that small and medium sizes businesses need to be part of that story as well, they need to focus on research and development and this will make Canada a global centre for innovation."
Vice President of Product Engineering at Lakeside Plastics Rudy Pupulin says the hiring process will begin shortly.
