A slew of complaints from residents has prompted Lakeshore Town Council to revise its yard maintenance by-law.
Issues with derelict vehicles, garbage, lawn care, and other blights weren't getting addressed.
That wasn't because the town didn't want to correct the problem, according to Mayor Tom Bain. "There were a number of sites that needed cleaning up and a number of complaints that came in from the neighbours that we weren't able to handle because of what I would call loopholes in the by-law," he says.
Bain tells AM800 News the by-law revisions will give the town the tools it needs to address complaints moving forward.
"This tightens it up and gives our building by-law enforcement people and by-law enforcement people a little more clout when they go in there to make sure that they can do their jobs," says Bain.
Nearly all areas of the by-law were tweaked to ensure loopholes are closed. "Snow removal, it covers weed control, and it covers simply a lot of garbage and derelict vehicles in yards," he says.
Bain says residents can call town hall to report any issues or enquire about the by-law changes.
