The Town of Lakeshore has been added to the list of local municipalities eligible for the Ontario's disaster relief fund.
The province has opened up the fund after last week's storm caused flooding in several areas.
Mayor Tom Bain says Lakeshore received more than 500 flood calls, many with serious damage.
He says eligibility is fairly limited at this point, but work is being done to widen it.
"Certainly that will allow our residents to apply for assistance when they're putting in repairs that have been damaged from the flooding. What we're really working on is trying to get the criteria open more to allow more people to be able to apply for that assistance."
He's hoping more neighbourhoods are added to the eligibility list going forward.
"What we would like to see is to open that up a bit more allowing more people to applym" says Bain. "People now, after the flooding, certainly realized that they need assistance financially with back water valves, with sump pumps and just doing general repairs to their homes."
But he says, it's not going to be a speedy process.
"Each situation is going to need to be assessed and you're going to need to meet the present criteria that the ministry has there. We're hoping that a cap, which they have on it, will be increased allowing more people to take advantage of it."
Windsor, Amherstburg, Essex, LaSalle and Tecumseh have also qualified for disaster relief.
