The Lakeshore Fire Department is in mourning after the death of District Chief Joe St. Louis.
"Certainly a shock and I'm sure it's a shock to everyone," says Lakeshore Mayor Tom Bain. "Our deepest sympathies go out to Joe's family."
St. Louis was a 25-year fire service veteran and a well-respected district chief across the Lakeshore Fire Service.
Bain says St. Louis was a loyal employee to the municipality.
"Our District Chief worked out of the Belle River office and had a lot to do with training of our firefighters and carrying out a lot of those programs with our firefighters," says Bain.
According to CTV Windsor, St. Louis was the victim of an assault on Daytona Ave. March 24, 2018.
Lakeshore Fire Chief Don Williamson tells AM800 News he can not comment specifically on St. Louis's passing due to limited details and out of respect for the family.
He says 'Joe was known for his calm demeanor and take charge approach during emergency situations.'
