It was a brush with death for a 62-year-old Lakeshore man on Lake St. Clair.
The OPP got a 9-1-1 call yesterday, Tuesday January 29, 2019, at about 10:30 am of an All Terrain Vehicle crashing through the ice of Mitchell's Bay.
The OPP, Chatham-Kent Emergency Medical Services and Chatham-Kent Fire Department responded.
The man was able to make his way toward shore while speaking to the 9-1-1 operator and relay his location.
At times the man was submerged up to his neck in the water.
The man, who was suffering from the elements, was found by a snowmobiler at about 11:30 am and taken to shore where an ambulance rushed him to hospital.
The OPP reminds people that these frigid temperatures may lead you to believe the ice on area waterways is thick enough for ATVs and other vehicles, but that's not always the case.
Police say the man is expected to make a full recovery.
