A Lakeshore man is going to jail for making fake American money with a store bought printer.
William Ladouceur, 26, pleaded guilty this week to one count of making counterfeit money and was sentenced to six months in jail.
Court heard he bought a printer at an office supply shop with some high quality paper and began making American $100 and $50 bills.
He tried to use them with teenage clerks at stores, but was caught.
He was arrested in April 2018 after the OPP executed a search warrant on Notre Dame St, near Dupuis.
Defence lawyer Frank Miller says this was not a sophisticated operation.
"People think they can get away with it and naive people think they can get away with it and no one will notice when in reality, there are so many telltales, even on American currency which isn't as protected as Canadian currency is," says Miller.
At one point, Miller says counterfeiting was very sophisticated because it had to be done with engraved plates and carried a prison term.
But now with cheap photocopy equipment, it is a crime that can be committed unsuccessfully by many people.
He says his client is relieved because it allows him to close this chapter in his life.
