There's a push in Lakeshore to open land along Highway 401 for development.
Council has adopted a Project Charter as part of the town's Employment Land Strategy.
Councillor Steven Wilder says Lakeshore is running out of industrial sites along the Patillo Rd. corridor and will need more land if a company or business wants to set up shop.
"This isn't something that's going to happen overnight, it's going to take a number of years," he says. "We've laid the ground work to get started on that process and start to look at it. I really think it's something that's going to be important for this community, not just for the next 10 or 20 years, 50, 100 years down the road."
Wilder says council doesn't want to miss out on any opportunities.
"Large developments are looking for large tracts of land. We've got to look elsewhere and with about 31-kilometres on both sides of the 401, that's a huge opportunity for us to look at. And further, with our neighbouring municipality, Tecumseh, we share a large border with them. It's maybe an opportunity for them to get in as well and look at developing that Manning Rd. corridor."
Wilder points to another need to develop the 401 land — he says residents have been asking for factories to be built further away from subdivisions.
Lakeshore will now forward the Project Charter to both the province and the county for support.
