Lakeshore is enjoying a population boom according to the latest census figures.
The population jumped 6% from 2011 to last year which is the highest percentage increase in Essex County.
36,611 people call Lakeshore home.
Director of Development and Community Services Steve Salmons says the figures come as no surprise.
"Our building permits and stats have been going up every single year for five years now," says Salmons. "Just five years ago we were at 167 starts, this year we are 264 starts."
"If you multiple that by a factor of two or three people a household, we are adding 500-700 people to Lakeshore every year. The building permits and subdivisions that are on file suggest that 2018 and 2019 will continue the 2017 rate."
Salmons says past councils deserve some credit by making decisions and investments into new water and sanitation services.
"The upgrades lay the groundwork to support growth in the municipality," says Salmons.
Tecumseh and Leamington were the two county municipalities that experienced small decreases in population.
