The Town of Lakeshore has laid out the welcome mat for hotel developers. Council has agreed to waive building fees in hopes of attracting interest.
Mayor Tom Bain says a hotel would benefit two groups in particular. "The tourism sector, of course, with the all tournaments we bring in for soccer, baseball, and hockey but also our industrial area where our larger companies bring in their executives from other areas and, unfortunately, have to leave the area to stay overnight someplace."
The waiving of building fees appears to be paying off. Bain says there have been initial discussions with a couple of developers.
The need for a hotel, says Bain, is obvious. "Just recently we put on a hockey tournament where there were 60 teams. So when you look at 60 teams probably 15-20 players on a team, you've got to find accommodations for all those people."
Bain says because a hotel is a commercial project, there's no set building permit fee. The amount the town would have to forego would depend on the size of the hotel.
