Concerns have been raised after the commercial growth around Patillo and County Rd 22

A town councillor in Lakeshore is looking to the future and the town's air quality.

As part of its Employment Land Strategy, concerns were raised about the air quality for residents living around the Patillo Rd. and County Rd. 22 area.

Councillor John Kerr says there has been a growth in commercial and industrial development in the area and as businesses grow, so does traffic and residents are wondering if it is having an impact on the air quality in the area.

"The companies that are there today, if their businesses do good, obviously traffic is going to go up because they are going to have product in and product out, they are going to have more employees in, more employees out and that's not something that we have a lot of control over," he says

Kerr will raise the issue during Tuesday's council meeting and wants council support to ask the province to test the air.

"Ask the Ontario government to come in and take a look and see how the air quality is. If it's bad, where is it coming from? Is it coming from the area? Is it coming from down wind?"

Kerr will be putting forth a notice of motion on Tuesday.

The Employment Land Strategy looks at where to put future commercial and industrial development for the next 40 to 50 years.
