Lakeshore is moving ahead with converting its former arena property.
Council has given the go-ahead to re-purpose the site on Rourke Line for the town's Parks, Facilities and Water Distribution departments.
The conversion is expected to take 18 months at a cost of $2.9 million.
It will include office spaces, meeting rooms, a kitchen, storage space and an archive room.
Councillor Linda McKinlay tells AM800 news, she's a fan of recycling existing buildings
"As councillor Janisse mentioned there's good bones in that old arena," says McKinlay. "It's a beautiful brick building and we can certainly expand on that and we absolutely need to move some facilities over there and make some room here at the town hall."
Once converted, she believes the building will spruce up the area.
"I do know that the director is paying close attention to the greenery and everything around the building to make it pleasing to be in that setting," says McKinlay.
Council will discuss the funding during budget deliberations.
The conversion is expected to start later in 2019.
The arena and community library shut down when the new Atlas Tube Centre opened in September 2014.
