Lakeshore residents could see a higher tax levy in 2019, but Mayor Tom Bain says they'll get their money's worth.
The town is tabling its 2019 Budget Monday and Bain says taxpayers could see a 1.5% increase to improve infrastructure and keep town services moving forward.
"There may be some fine tweaking to the budget that we'll do, but I think overall, considering inflation, that certainly a number that's going to be acceptable," he says. "We're going to not only be able to maintain service levels that we have, but increase some of our infrastructure that we're hoping to do."
Bain tells AM800 News no one wants to see a tax increase, but progress costs money.
"I think residents are going to be pleased to see the amount of work that's scheduled to be done under this new budget and yet only see a minimal increase," added Bain.
According to the town's website, this year's municipal tax bill might go up $17.70 on a home valued at $200,000.
Budget deliberations will be held at 9am Monday and Tuesday — the budget is expected to be up for approval at the town’s next council meeting on Feb. 19.
