Lakeshore council has approved hiring an integrity commissioner.
During budget deliberations Tuesday night, council ok'd the post and wants a report to come back naming two candidates.
Lakeshore Mayor Tom Bain says the commissioner will be able to step in when there are conflicts at council, but adds the position is being mandated by the province so the municipality had no choice to approve it.
"So we certainly have no question that we have to appoint an integrity commissioner," he says. "We have been given a deadline of the end of the month."
Bain says the report will outline the cost for the job.
"Certainly conflicts come up and the integrity commissioner will be able to rule on any of those difficulties that come up at council."
The town budget has not been finalized yet.
Council deliberated the budget until 11pm Tuesday, and decided to resume deliberations March 4th.
