The Windsor and District Labour Council is honouring local union activists with the 2019 Gary L. Parent Award.
The awards recognize the efforts of those within the labour community, who have worked in a variety of ways in an attempt to make the community a better place.
One of the award winners is Canadian Union of Postal Workers Local 630 President, Phil Lyons. He's the inaugural John Toth Community Champion Legacy Award winner.
Toth, the former president of Unifor Local 195, passed away in April at the age of 56 after a battle with cancer.
Lyons calls the award an honour.
"I know what John brought to the table and it's been extremely humbling just to be mentioned in the same sentence as him and it means a lot to be part of the community," he says.
