WINDSOR — The Ward 7 by-election is set for Monday April 27 and the outgoing councillor has a message for voters.
Currently Igor Dzaic, Barbara Holland, Ernie Lamont, Greg Lemay, Michael Malott, and Thérèse Papineau have declared their intentions.
They're looking to replace Irek Kusmierczyk who stepped down after he was elected the Liberal MP for Windsor-Tecumseh in last year's Federal Election.
Kusmierczyk tells AM800 News, a resident of the ward will always have resident's best interest at heart.
"I think it's really important to live there and be part of the community because you get a different prospective when you live in the neighbourhood," says Kusmierczyk.
He says living in a ward teaches a councillor more than door knocking ever could.
"You get a sense of what some of the issues and concerns are, you get a chance to speak with the residents in the area," says Kusmierczyk. "So I think it really is important to live in the ward."
He points out he learned a lot from just walking area parks and bumping into constituents at area shopping centres.
The nomination period closes on March 13 at 2pm.
