The kids at a camp in Colchester had another reason to be extra excited.
Local Philanthropists Stephanie and Barry Zekelman donated $50,000 to pay for operational maintenance at the Kiwanis Sunshine Point Camp.
Essex NDP MP Tracey Ramsey also handed over a cheque worth more than $54,000 as part of the Canada Summer Jobs funding to pay for the salaries of the 18 counsellors at the camp.
The camp along County Rd. 50 includes several camps, a pool, new playground equipment and outdoor space for kids.
It had been in danger five years ago of shutting down because of a lack of funding, but donations helped to turn things around.
Past President Dan Inverarity says it's about letting kids be kids.
"These kids have a great time, a lot of them really haven't left the city of Windsor before, they come here, they have to be unplugged, there is no game playing, they come and have a good time and a lot of them come out and wonder why there are so many stars out here compared to the city and it is because there is no lights here."
Stephanie Zekelman is happy to donate.
"I think that camp is so important for children to allow them to be children, to run freely and play and meet new friends and have a good time, right guys..Yeah."
Essex NDP MP Tracey Ramsey says it's a win-win for everyone involved.
"The camp couldn't function without the counsellors and for me, it is really about the youth working with the youth, but also some good employment opportunities for the summer."
Nine-year-old Jada loves being at the camp.
"I really like it here and a lot of people are fun here."
More than 450 kids attend the camp over seven weeks.
