Kingsville is trying to figure out what to do with the historic King's Landing property. The town purchased the land and former restaurant in 2014 for $675,000, but is yet to find a use for it.
Mayor Nelson Santos says they're putting a call out to the public or any organization that may be interested in using the building.
Santos says the town wants to know what amenities the public would like to see there.
"That's what the recommendation is going forward," says Santos. "Speak with the public. Identify potential needs and goals, also identify the public, now that we have a full report, on what the actual costs of retrofitting and renovating the building. We need to really make a firm decision on how do we want to move forward with this building."
Santos says the town would like to see the facility changed into a public space.
"Our other public facilities are pretty capped out in terms of rental for special events or family functions. From day one the intent was to transform the restaurant into another public facility whether it be a reception hall or other municipal or public service."
A public input session is being planned for the King's Landing property. A date for that meeting has not yet been set.
