Santa Claus is coming to Kingsville Saturday.
It's the first of three drive-thru events organized by Windsor Parade Corporation in Essex County to ensure Santa can come to town safely during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Executive Director Maggie Durocher tells The Morning Drive it was a lot of work deciding on a safe and fun format.
"Originally they were walk through, so the parade would sit still and people could walk through, but with social gathering limits ... that wasn't working anymore. So we decided on the drive-thru parade," she added.
She says the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has signed off on the event and Santa's ready to go.
"We worked for a long time to find something that is ... within the confines of COVID-19 and we think, along with the inspectors at the health unit, that we've got something here that fits the bill," she says.
Durocher says Santa Radio will be playing throughout the parade route.
"While people drive through they can tune into 90.1 FM at the Kingsville parade and hear Santa talking; it will be really exciting for the little ones," she says.
Visitors are asked pull up to Kingsville District High School located at 170 Main Street to access the route east of Spruce Street.
The parade runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and vehicles will be allowed to enter as traffic allows.
Route details can be found on the town's Fantasy of Lights website.
