A Kingsville restaurant is looking to steak its claim in a hotly contested culinary challenge.
Mettawas Station will be taking on some of the best in Ontario this weekend to decide who has the best veal sandwich in Ontario.
Chef Anthony Delbroco tells CTV Windsor News the veal sandwich has been a menu for five years and now the Train-Wreck is going up against three other Ontario restaurants for veal-sandwich supremacy.
"We dubbed it the Train-Wreck because it's a big sloppy messy of a sandwich, and kind of like a Train-Wreck, you can't look away," he says.
The ingredients are all locally sourced: provolone, peppers, onion, mushrooms, and fresh-baked buns. The key ingredient is Ontario veal and tomato sauce.
"The tomato sauce I make in house, it's our homemade recipe, we don't have to go far for that," says Delbrocco. "It's the love in my hands once you put things together with good simple ingredients you usually have winner."
Delbrocco is relishing the spotlight and since news broke he's got a top four veal sandwich he's cooked up hundreds of Train-Wrecks.
"I'm a pretty confident guy. I'm not nervous about it. My product stands for what it is," he says.
Mettawas is going up against Nostra Cuccina of Kitchener, Kantene of Mississauga and Panino-Teca of Hamilton at Saturday's contest, which will be held at St. Lawrence Market in Toronto.
The contest is being judged by a veal farmer, some journalists, and celebrity foodie John Catucci from the show You Gotta Eat Here.
