The OPP and town of Kingsville are looking to reduce the number of accidental 911 calls.
Police received an average 80 calls for service last month which is described as being high.
It has launched the #KnowWhenToCall Campaign to educate the public on unintentional calls and to urge the public not to call 9-1-1 unless it is an emergency.
The OPP responds to all 911 calls whether it is an accident or not. As a result, it's overtaxing police resources as two officers respond for every unintentional call.
Police are asking people to take steps to prevent pocket dials by using the keypad lock feature, turning off the 911 auto-dial feature and avoiding programming a wireless device to automatically or 'speed dial' 9-11.
The OPP in Tecumseh are also reporting similar concerns.
