Kingsville's Business Improvement Association is looking for a little more room for their members when the town enters Phase Two of the COVID-19 recovery plan.
The BIA will be presenting an open streets plan, similar to the one recently approved in Amherstburg, at council Monday night.
It would see lanes and streets closed downtown to give businesses like retailers and restaurant more room for customers to shop or eat safely.
Mayor Nelson Santos says council has already been exploring the idea, so it won't be a tough sell.
"There's been a lot of discussion back and forth between our administration and council on how we could support an effort to expand the space for services from restaurants to retail allowing them to come into our streets," he says.
Santos expects to see a resolution put forward to iron out the details.
"Additional services and support because we're always looking at the safety of the community going forward," he says. "There's still everything from managing barriers and locations to detours."
The plan is to have everything in place as soon as possible, according to Santos.
"If Phase Two is approved any time soon the application that came before our SERT [Special Events Resource Team] and our emergency responders identified a potential start up as early as this Friday, June 26," he added.
Kingsville Town Council will be live streamed at 7 p.m.
