Sweeping changes to the rules of golf are being welcomed by a local golf course manager.
Kingsville Golf GM Doug Quick can't remember a time when the rules of the game altered this much.
Quick says the goal of the governing bodies was two-fold.
"Their main focus is to A) speed up the game and B) try to make the rules more simple because simple is good. People need to have fun at the game."
He expects the changes will be welcomed by all levels of players.
"The average golfers and even the skilled golfers are going to embrace the changes. The USGA has videos on their website which I think are excellent to explain explain it. I think it's going to meet with a lot of positive results."
The number of rules and definitions has been reduced from 34 to 24 under the proposed changes.
There is a six month comment period on the changes which are tentatively to go into effect at the start of 2019.
