The Town of Kingsville is the first in the area to take part in the Special Olympics flag relay.
The flag will make its rounds in Windsor-Essex this week raising awareness and showing support.
Residents joined together at the Knights of Columbus in Kingsville Saturday to raise the flag.
Mayor, Nelson Santos, says the town is honoured to be part of the event.
"I think it's empowering individuals to just do their best and not give up, to put their best foot forward and do what they can in making the effort. I think Special Olympics has quite the message that's inspiring and their athletes are certainly, above all, very inspiring and very courageous to get out there and just do what they can do."
The Knights of Columbus has been supporting the Special Olympics since the 1960's.
The flag will remain in each community for a few days before it is passed to the next Knights of Columbus Council and their community.
By early June, the flag will arrive in the community hosting the provincial tryouts for this year's athletes.
