The Kid's First Food Bank in Windsor wants people to know it is staying open amid the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Staff met Friday morning to discuss the options and decided to continue to serve the public.
Executive Director Angela Yakonich says they don't want to take away from the vulnerable population they already serve.
"We have people that are battling illness, we have people that have other contributing factors and what we know is that people who are living in poverty, tend to be more at risk and sometimes on the unhealthier side," she says/.
Staff are doing extra work to keep on top of the cleanliness, Yakonich explains, "Right now we have volunteers who came in early this morning, we are sanitizing the entire food bank with bleach right now," she says. "We managed to get our hands on a few cans of Lysol so we'll be using that as well."
She says staff will also be putting together breakfast bags for kids who will be missing out on breakfast programs because schools will be closed until April 5th.
"People can start dropping by next week and we'll put an announcement on Facebook when they're ready. So these bags will have things in them like cereal, eggs, bread, peanut butter, those basic things kids need every morning that they probably won't have access to."
The Food bank was the victim of a robbery in January. Yakonich says thanks to an increase in donations following the robbery, they are able to continue to service the public during this difficult time.
