A Windsor man has denied setting a house fire that injured a 7-year-old girl and her mother.
44-year-old Ken Kormendy is on trial charged with attempted murder and arson for the fire on Balfour Boulevard in October 2015.
He took the stand in his own defence and testified he was in the master bedroom, watching TV and dozing off when he heard noises and a swoosh.
He walked out of the room and saw flames.
Earlier in the trial, Sheri Rueda testified Kormendy poured gasoline on her and her daughter while they were sleeping in another bedroom.
She said Kormendy lit the fire.
The two were in the process of breaking up.
"Did you have any involvement in starting that fire," asked Defence lawyer Evan Weber.
"Absolutely not," replied Kormendy.
"Were you ever holding a gas can pouring gasoline in that house," asked Weber. "No sir," said Kormendy.
Under cross-examination, Assistant Crown Walter Costa suggested Kormendy was angry with Rueda for ending the relationship. Kormendy admitted he wasn't happy but accepted it was time to move on.
7-year-old Isabel Rueda suffered burns to 15% of her body. She has a severe scar on her face.
