Air conditioners have been running at full speed with another round of hot, steamy weather over southwestern Ontario.
Ryan Mote is Reliance Home Comfort's operations manager for southwest Ontario — he gave AM800's Patty Handysides some tips to make sure air conditioners don't suffer heat stroke on The Afternoon News.
"Your furnace needs to be able to move air well to circulate it around the house and ensure that cool air can get to the areas that you need it. My number one tip would be to check your filter," says Mote also reminds residents not to forget about the outdoor unit. "Make sure that you hose that down and it's nice and clean outside. We don't have lint and stuff all piling up on there."
According to Mote, turning the temperature up when you leave the house sounds like a better idea than it really is.
"The hardest thing to do is for it to recover, so you're always better to just maintain the same temperature and let it do its job. You can sleep comfy and know that you'll be nice and cool in the morning," he added.
Mote says making sure blinds are closed and adding shade in front of windows are additional measures to lower the air conditioners workload.
