Salvador Perez homered twice as the Kansas City Royals broke open a close game to rout the Tigers 13-2 last night.
The Royals broke a 2-2 tie with four runs in the seventh, then scored seven in the eighth. Jason Hammell got the win.
Hammell allowed nine hits in six innings to improve to 8-10 on the season.
Matthew Boyd took the loss for the Tigers giving up four runs and seven hits in six innings work.
Reliever Joe Jimenez struggled in relief, as he was charged with five hits and five runs, while retiring just one batter.
The Tigers are off today, but open a series against the Jays tomorrow night at Rogers Centre.
