Jets Blow Out Lions On MNF

The New York Jets cruised to an easy 4817 win over the Lions at Ford Field

The Lions fell flat in their season debut on Monday Night Football, losing to the New York Jets 48-17 at Ford Field.  

The game began on a high note for Detroit as cornerback Quandre Diggs picked off Jets rookie quarterback Sam Darnold for a 37-yard return for a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage.

Quarterback Matthew Stafford threw for 286 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions.

Stafford was hit in the leg during a pass in the second quarter and was limping, but stayed in the game.

Rookie Sam Darnold overcame a pick-six on his first NFL play to throw a pair of touchdown passes for the Jets.

Isaiah Crowell added 102 yards and two scores on the ground for New York, which scored 31 points unanswered points in the third quarter after Detroit tied the game at 17.

Starting defensive end Ziggy Ansah left the game in the second quarter with a shoulder injury, running back LeGarrette Blount suffered an undisclosed injury and did not play in most of the second half and guard T.J. Lang left the game late with a back injury.

The Lions travel to San Francisco to take on the 49ers on Sunday.
