Motorists will notice a parade of cyclist today as more than 100 bikes hit the road for Bike to Work Day.
Five rides from Riverside, Walkerville, South Windsor, West Windsor and LaSalle will gather at Jackson Park.
Bike Windsor-Essex Mechanical Education Co-ordinator Oliver Swainson tells AM800 News riders will finish the final leg of the journey together. "Everyone converges at Jackson Park and then we'll be leaving Jackson Park at 7:40am for a ride down to the riverfront where there'll be a free pancake breakfast and a few other things going on," he says.
Swainson says motorists and cyclist should exercise caution with such a large group taking to the streets. "We're all in the same boat, we're all just trying to get from A to B in one piece," says Swainson. "Just keep an out and take the time to look around and check your blind spots."
Bike to Work Day is the first of several Bike Month events running until the end of June.
Swainson hopes the event will sway a few more people into choosing a healthy more efficient form of transportation. "Reducing congestion on the roads, you can fit 12 to 16 bikes in the same space that you would take up at a parking lot so there are a lot of benefits to riding to and from work," he says. "The more people that do it, I think the healthier, more vibrant and more connected our community will be."
