An investigation is officially underway to look into a breach of confidentially in Amherstburg.
A week ago, town council agreed to allow Integrity Commissioner Bruce Elman to step in to determine where the breach occurred.
The violation in question happened between September 10 and 13, following an in-camera meeting dealing with the upcoming police switchover to Windsor.
The chair of the Amherstburg Police Board, Bob Rozankovic, received confidential information from the in-camera meeting and notified the town CAO.
Since then, town Mayor Aldo DiCarlo says the integrity commission has met with the town's clerk requesting specific documents.
"The clerk has had an opportunity to meet with the integrity commissioner which obviously is the beginning of the process, the integrity commissioner has requested the appropriate documents from her and she is actively working to compile all that information and provide it to him."
DiCarlo wants this investigation wrapped up sooner rather than later.
The mayor doesn't know how much of the investigation's findings will be released to the public.
"It will be up to him in his findings who it was, what his recommendations are, if any and what information can and can not be shared and once the information was shared, is it even confidential any more."
Council also voted to hire a third-party independent investigator to examine administration members who sat in during the in-camera meeting.
DiCarlo says he is considering different investigators which he says 'have to be neutral.'
