Today is 'International Scotch Day' designed to celebrate all things Scotch Whisky.
Scotch is malt whisky or grain whisky made in Scotland and it must must be made in a manner specified by law. All Scotch whisky must be aged in oak barrels for at least three years.
Frank Biskupek is a Canadian Brand Ambassador for Chivas Whisky Products, represented by Corby Spirits and Wine.
When it comes to the right way to drink scotch, Biskupek says there's no right way to drink Scotch but a few drops of water can enhance the whisky. "The old days in Scotland when I was a lad standing in a bar and some old guy would lean on me and say 'you're not putting water in your whisky are you laddie?', because you were wasting the whisky. But that's not true."
"Scotch is one of those drinks for all occasions," says Biskupek. Whether its a baby being born, a birthday party or ou say cheerio to someone it's a great way to send them off with a nice glass of Scotch."
Biskupek also says that Scotch is meant to be sipped and enjoyed. "I see the kids in the bars with these Irish whiskies doing shooters but they're not getting the taste of the whisky and the history that went into. It took years to get this product into that bottle, give it a chance."
The first written mention of Scotch whisky is in the Exchequer Rolls of Scotland, 1495.
