People impacted by workplace automation have an opportunity to tell their story.
A public consultation takes place at the Ciocarro Club this evening as part of a province-wide project by the Brookfield Institute.
The organization is affiliated with Ryerson University and is on track to deliver a report in March.
Director of Policy and Research, Sarah Doyle, says they've gathered some input but want to get first-hand comments.
Doyle says they're looking to gather more detail.
"We've heard a lot about the pros and cons of tech change and what that might mean for workers." says Doyle "But we don't yet have a granular sense what it looks like for individual people and communities in different sectors"
Doyle says they want to hear from the people directly impacted.
"The workers' perspective really on how they're seeing technology being introduced in their workplaces." says Doyle "What impact they think that's having or might have on the skills that their employers will be looking for on how they relate to their work"
Doyle says the input they've heard is a wide variety.
"Technology can improve health and safety standards, it can free people up to do more interesting tasks on the job. Or it can make jobs more boring because you're reduced to button pushing." Doyle explains "What we're hearing is that the impacts are diverse and very much depend on the cointext so we want to get a better understanding of how people are seeing that"
The consultation in Windsor is scheduled for the Ciociaro Club, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.
On Wednesday, January 31, it will be at the John D. Bradley Convention Centre in Chatham, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.
