Simon Pagenaud likely saved his job.
On Sunday, Pagenaud gave Team Penske an 18th Indianapolis 500 victory by outdueling Alexander Rossi in a breathtaking 13-lap sprint to the finish.
Pagenaud's future at Penske has been in question, but an Indy 500 victory bought him breathing room.
This coming weekend, the Indy Cars head to Belle Isle to race both Saturday and Sunday in the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix.
Pagenaud tells AM800 Sports it's a big event.
"It's Chevy City, so it's obviously a very important weekend for us, after Indy, which is our number one priority, Detroit becomes the next one," says Pagenaud.
Pagenaud also says there's a lot at stake on Belle Isle.
"It's one hundred points available at Detroit Grand Prix with two races, and you have to bring your "A" game on two races back to back knowing that's it's going to be physical."
The gates for the Grand Prix open Friday at 7:30 a.m. on Belle Isle, with the Trans Am Series cars the first to hit the track for practice at 7:45 a.m.
