A trip to India has paid dividends to the Windsor Essex area.
A delegation from the Windsor Essex Economic Development Corporation travelled there on a trade mission
Invest Canada hosted an event where the WEEDC delegation met with a number of Indian based firms interested in opening a location in Canada.
On AM800's The Afternoon News, outgoing Chief Operating Officer Rakesh Naidu says they had immediate interest in Windsor Essex.
"We've invited them to come and experience what Windsor Essex has to offer and they've taken up the offer and we'll be soon seeing some of the companies that we've met with come over to Windsor, the Windsor-Essex region and explore setting up an operation in our region"
Naidu says the first firm is expected here to visit in March next year with the rest coming over the next 9 months.
He says the firms looking to set up here are diverse.
"The companies that we met, some of them are in manufacturing some of these companies are in auto components, there's IT services company there's a compliance company that is in the compliance industry, there's a variety of companies that we've met"
During the trade mission the first ever industrial Memorandum of Understanding between India and Canada was signed with the Canadian Association of Moldmakers.
