A public visitation is underway for Mike Ilitch in Detroit.
The owner of the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Red Wings, and founder of Little Caesars Pizza, died last week at the age of 87.
CTV Windsor's Rich Garton was at the visitation at Fox Theatre earlier today, and spoke with people paying their respects.
"They say he was one of the greatest citizens Detroit has ever had and it doesn't get much better than that," says Garton. "There was actually someone from the Rosa Parks Institute who came and brought flowers in the colours of the Detroit Tigers for the Ilitch family. There's pictures, there's flowers, there's a little video playing. I mean there's a lot of celebrate here. 87 full years of life and he's been referred to by many people as the 'mayor of Detroit' someone who really built the city and believed in the city."

The Ilitch family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Ilitch Charities, The Detroit Red Wings Foundation, or the Detroit Tigers Foundation.
Today's visitation lasts until 8pm.
