Windsor-Essex County can expect some snow tonight creating hazardous driving conditions.
Environment Canada is calling for 5-10cm of snow to hit the area starting at midnight.
Severe Weather Meteorologist with Environment Canada Geoff Coulson says the mixture of cold and warm weather systems increases the chances for icy conditions.
"We are going to see more in the way of active weather with respect to rain and snow," says Coulson. "The first of those systems is expected to start to spread snow into the Windsor area late this evening probably just before midnight. That snow will continue overnight giving us about five to ten centimeters by Tuesday morning."
He says drivers should be cautious when driving in these weather conditions.
"Even though the daytime highs will be above freezing over the next couple days, these next few nights will be dropping below freezing," says Coulson. This may create icy conditions so if you have to drive I recommend leaving lots of space between vehicles. It is important to remember as well that areas that look wet could in fact be icy over the course over the coming days."
Coulson says the snow is a result of a cold front coming from the United States.
"The system itself is still getting itself together down in the American southwest," says Coulson. "We are seeing snow right now falling through the Dakotas and Minnesota and that is the snow that will push through Lake Michigan and into lower Michigan later tonight."
The temperature will drop to -3 tonight with rain expected Tuesday afternoon.
