Hurricanes Knock Out Stanley Cup Champs

Carolinas Brock McGinns goal in doubleovertime sends the Hurricanes into Round 2 against the Islanders

The Carolina Hurricanes are moving on in the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Brock McGinn scored midway through the second overtime to give the Hurricanes a 4-3 win over the defending champion Washington Capitals in Game Seven of their first-round series in D.C.

Jordan Staal squared the game at three early in the third for Carolina, which overcame a 3-1 deficit to pull out the win.

The Hurricanes will face the Islanders in round two.

Andre Burakovsky, Tom Wilson and Evgeny Kuznetsov scored for Washington, which lost the final two games of the series.
