Carolina scored two quick goals early in the third period for a 21 win over the Islanders

After taking down the NHL Stanley Cup champion Washington Capitals in the first round, the Carolina Hurricanes now find themselves up 2-0 over the Islanders after a 2-1 win in New York.

Outplayed for much of the first two periods, Carolina scored two quick goals early in the third period and held on for the road victory.

Bad news for Hurricanes fans as starting goalie Petr Mrazek left with an injury in the second period — there's no word yet if he'll be back for game three Wednesday in Carolina.

In other playoff action, the Avalanche scored three unanswered goals between the second and third period to beat the Sharks 4-3 in San Jose.

That evens their best-of-seven series at a game a piece.

Game three goes Tuesday in Colorado.
