An U.S. Virgin Islands man now living in Windsor is thinking about his family and friends.
Niko James says Hurricane Irma has hit his homeland.
James who is originally from St. Thomas says he has been monitoring the storm and has been in contact with family and friends still living on the island.
He says it's a stressful situation.
"It's really hard just to see everyone, all of my friends just going through what they're going through right now but it's a really resilient island," says James. We'll bounce back right away."

James adds there is no power on the island.
"There's a lot of extensive damage right now and as far as people are concerned everyone for the most part they are safe but in the next few weeks coming up they will be needing help from the United States government to just get back in the swing of things."

This is not the first time a hurricane hit the island.
In 1989 Hurricane Hugo made landfall followed by Hurricane Marilyn in 1995.
