Outsourcing is on the agenda tonight at Windsor city hall.
Council will look at outsourcing the 16 full-time and 19 part-time jobs at the Huron Lodge long-term care home.
There's at least one guaranteed 'NO' vote. Councillor Bill Marra believes certain public services need to be kept in-house and this is one of them. "There has not been a case made that this is a good option, with regards to the quality of service and the specific nature of the service, particularly at Huron Lodge. For folks who are not familiar with the operations of a healthcare system, I think it's underestimated relative to the specific requirements and the skill set needed in a healthcare setting."
Marra isn't sure why the issue is up for debate. He says "there have been no problems with the quality of service and no issues with employees."
A report going before council tonight outlines a one-time cost of $1.9-million to transition the workers to other jobs.
The report says that would result in an annual savings to the city of just over $600,000.
